Judy Thomas
Cemetery Commissioner 3
I was born and raised in Kentucky. My early education and life experiences occurred during the Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam War, Peach Marches and sit-ins. After graduating from the University of Kentucky, I moved to Seattle and Washington has been my home for over 50 years.. I worked for the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries (NOAA), the Washington Department of Fisheries, the Lummi Indian Aquaculture Project and a project in Puerto Rico determining the feasibility of culturing mangrove oysters and freshwater prawns.
In addition to working, I earned my Masters Degree in Science Education from Western Washington University, I taught for over 20 years for the Ferndale School District and was the head teachers at the Beach School for many years before retiring and I served on the Lummi Island Fire Department as a volunteer for over 20 years as an EMT.
I have served three years on the Lummi Island Cemetery Commission.
The Lummi Island Cemetery is a precious and valued place of memories and islander’s histories and a place for families to gather and learn their own heritage. I am honored to be a contributing community member as an LI Cemetery Commissioner.
My interests include family events, golf, reading, boating, island social events and world travel.
